UNDER CONSTRUCTION
Entered for the Alleyway Project 2021 - Activating Ann Arbor's Alleys Through Art
This project was inspired by the way alleys have changed and existed over time. It is often that alleys are only seen as one thing, a forgotten space full of mechanical and objects rather left unseen. These spaces, however, have so much more potential. Our design centers around the perception of the alley way. Using anamorphic projection, when standing from one point across the street, our project creates an image that continues on the language from the nearby building filling the space with another “building.” This one view relates to the singular view that alleys often take on. Moving away from this view, and also this way of thinking, the viewer starts to realize what this space actually is. Using multiple types of construction fencing hanging from the two neighboring buildings, the project begins to break and pull apart revealing the multiple layers used to make the projection. Seating is available on both sides with extra seating that is able to be pulled out and assembled in any form to allow for a gathering space. Because of the nature of the assembly, each layer is free to move with the wind permitting for a space that is always in motion.
