YELLOW SPRINGS INN
Modeled after Robert Venturi’s project “Three Buildings for a Small Town in Ohio” from Complexity and Contradiction in Architecture, this studio focused on the development of three buildings: a town hall, a library, and a town inn.
Sited in Yellow Springs, Ohio, home to Antioch College and a state park, these three public buildings aim to urbanistically connect and relate to each other, the larger urban downtown, and the state park while also creating a sense of center without a literal one. Working with a series of thresholds and views, the two, once disconnected, urban main streets become one. The sites and massings of all three buildings strategically begin to clearly define urban, garden, and forest, all of which were present and meaningful in the existing town.
